STRESSED OUT TO THE MAX??
Have you ever gone through a period in your life where you were hyper-focused on a work project to the point where you had no personal life? I sure have!
“For I am the Lord your God Who holds your right hand, and Who says to you, ‘Do not be afraid. I will help you.’ Isaiah 41:13 NLV
Have you ever gone through a period in your life where you were hyper-focused on a work project to the point where you had no personal life? I sure have!
I have been so hyper-focused on renovating my website/blog for this past year that I’ve not taken the time to care for the things that matter in my personal life, such as a good diet, exercise, and relaxation. For these reasons, I have been pretty much an insomniac for quite a while, making me a prime target for Satan’s attacks.
I’ve also not spent much time enjoying my family. Yes, I’ve continued in my daily devotional time and prayer with God and have continued going to Church, but other than that, I have pretty much been an overworked, stressed-out basket case.
GOD HAS A BETTER IDEA!
This morning, God gave me a wake-up call during my prayer time. He asked me if I had made the website an idol. No, it is not my idol, but it has taken up the biggest part of my life for the past year because I thought that was what God wanted me to do. It had not occurred to me that the blogs had taken preference over the rest of my life. God wants us to do His works, but not at the cost of our health and well-being. Even God rested on the seventh day.
I have been completely overwhelmed and frustrated trying to finish the website and re-do the blog posts the way experts say I should. Since I have so many blog posts, this will take a while. I just have to hang onto the Word, “Commit your work to the Lord, then it will succeed.” (Proverbs 16:32 Living Bible)
I ran across this quote, and it hit home with me. “Rest time is not waste time. It is economy to gather fresh strength… It is wisdom to take occasional furlough. In the long run, we shall do more by sometimes doing less.” Charles Spurgeon
A NEW PLAN
This morning, while talking to God, I decided to do my new blogs regularly and then re-do two or three existing posts a day instead of working until I’m exhausted. That’s my new limit. The rest of the day will be mine to do the things I enjoy, like having a life outside of blogging.
SATAN LOVES A WORKAHOLIC – THEY MAKE GREAT PRIME TARGETS!
Our enemy (Satan) wants us to become overwhelmed and discontent. He loves it when we experience insomnia. At these points, we are his perfect target. Our minds are not as sharp, so it will take us longer to accomplish anything in the first place. Rest provides strength to keep going and clarity in our thinking. We accomplish much more when rested than when we toil and spin to complete a project, and our accomplishments will most likely be of better quality.
WE ACCOMPLISH MUCH MORE WHEN RESTED AND THINKING CLEARLY!
Proper rest provides a better work product and helps us feel better physically and become more relaxed. Psalms 127:2 (Living Bible), says, “It is senseless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, fearing you will starve to death, for God wants His loved ones to get their proper rest.” With rest and relaxation, we are no longer stressed, and we stand a much better chance of getting a good night’s sleep.
